Exercise 1
--------------------------
Exercise 2
For this exercise, I wanted to show the 'real'
experience of how I normally make a cup of tea;
1. Through the feelings
(mostly bored)
2. The time
(waiting for the water to boil)
3. action and movement
--------------------------
Exercise 3
In this exercise, from the previous task got me thinking about how to show the experience in the space space but express a 'different' feelings. Thus, I chose to do something quite UNREAL and IMAGINATION which is totally opposite from the previous exercise.
--------------------------
Exercise 4
From the research, they inspire me with the concept and the idea of the story line, which was the start of exercise 4. In this task, I keep thinking back and forward between the apartment that I am living in Melbourne and the home in my hometown. It was hard at first to finds what elements that make it different from the place that I stayed in New Zealand but after I observe through my room I realized that it is all the stuff that I bought from Bangkok; some family photos, some silly plastic duck which I have a lot in my toilet back in my home country which I think those little objects make me feel like I am not far from home or at least I have something to remind me h is it feel like when I am at home back in my hometown.
--------------------------
The experiences that I’ve gained from all the exercises I have taken part in have allowed me to develop an understanding on short films and on the space of my apartment that I am currently working on.
For this particular exercise, we were asked to measure our own space by physically measuring it to make a model for the next exercise. In my opinion, this is a very effective method to get to know your own space as you have to carefully observe and learn about every single detail about the room.
In the next exercise, we learned how to correctly operate a camera to make a short film using different methods; different angles, different light sources, etc. This led us to achieving different results using different methods, thus experiencing the different points of view through his or her video. In my work, I chose to express through the film the experience of making a cup of tea. I showed in my work how I usually have to wait for the water to boil, then how I have to prepare all the necessary elements that I need when I hear the familiar sound of the kettle boiling, and that slowly fading sound after it reaches its boiling point.
After the above exercise, for our next task, we were asked to show the difference between experiences that changes overtime. From the results I attained from my last exercise, I tried to demonstrate the ‘true and real’ experience. Thus for this task, I chose to produce a video, which is very different from the previous exercise, where we learned more about the making of a video and what we can do with it, such as adding effects and playing with the sounds. In this video, I tried to express the surrealism of an experience in the space and objects. The outcome I obtained was exactly what I wanted, which was to be the exact opposite of my first video. The shoes walking from the wall to the floor by themselves, and then arranging themselves neatly on the shoe rack
In our final exercise, we needed to combine all the knowledge that we had learned from all our previous exercises. We were required to make a short film to express your experience in a home. This really got me thinking about the times and feelings I go through in each space of the apartment. While doing this exercise, I noticed several things that I had never been aware of before. For example, the cracking sound when I open or close the door, and the sudden reverse feeling when I walk through different parts of the apartment.
However, even though the videos didn’t come out as I intended it to be, I found the process of producing the video enjoyable. In the future, if I have a chance, I would be interested in exploring the program, the technology and the various process of how you can produce a video.
